^^that's part of the fun of going to the library. . .instead of browsing rows and rows of books, one can browse drawers in the card catalog :t2041:

I can tell you for a fact... I was not home very often to watch television in the 70's especially on Friday... but If I was home... I probably would have watched "The Rockford Files" and "Police Woman"

My parents wouldn't let me watch the gorilla documentary...Too much nudity and sex.

I had a pair of these, before they were banned in the 1970s for safety reasons.

i remember them trying to teach us how to use this in grade school. i'm pretty sure it was already 2000 by that time, kinda pointless by then but i guess they needed to fill out their lesson plan somehow. there was an entire multi day lesson on it with tests. i remember absolutely nothing i "learned".

The DDS was a roadmap between the card catalog and the shelf the book was on.  Usually a chart of the subject numbers somewhere, so you knew which drawer to look into.  After I learned the university library's layout, I just went to the section to see what was there.

Unless I'm having a fever dream, I used one of these just recently. About 15 years ago.

I learned the Dewey Decimal system for high school. Got to college where I worked in the library shelving books - where it was all Library of Congress system instead.

Fotomat was a big game changer for us... you could get your photos back in 24 hours!

One of my first memories of having film developed was dropping off rolls of film with my family at a drug store. The lady behind the counter asked if we wanted the photos developed on matte or glossy paper. To this day I get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I hear those two words together.

BTW, at first I thought she said glassy. I prefer matte, myself.

My older (much) sister had one of these.Yashicadscf9525.thumb.jpg.ba47639f6bc0625d8723c617b3213d14.jpg My dad bought it in a pawn shop for her photography class. She learnt how to develop film. They only used glossy. Even at a young age I knew I liked matte better. I never said anything because I didn't know quite how to express myself yet. What would I have said, anyway? She was a decent photographer, but something was missing. She was a better artist, i.e. writer, drawings, etc.

Anyway, I loved that camera and would often just sit and stare at it. Like it was the black monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. I must have thought something magical and mystical would eventually happen if I gazed at it long enough.

Years passed and eventually I moved on from the old Yashica. When I was old enough I earned enough money to buy a Pentax K1000. You couldn't have gotten a more basic SLR than that. I loved it anyway and miss it like nobody's business.

When I was in grade school, we got to see this film.

What I remember most about it is the introduction by Princess Grace of Monaco (Grace Kelly).

Also, wasn't that kind of advanced cinema fare for us kids?

Well, we were a precocious bunch. We even had Swedish modular classrooms, i.e. desks, chairs, etc.

This was a public school mind you, in the early-mid 1970s in the Southwest. Not some fancy shmancy eastern private or boarding school. No one thought anything of it at the time, how progressive it actually was. It was just our school, and the parents were certainly satisfied.

We got to see the standard (at the time) Disney movies like Old Yeller' but every now and then a gem was thrown in, like the above title.

There was very little bullying and it was generally quite mild and could usually easily be handled and dealt with to everyone's satisfaction.

I didn't realize how much I missed grade school until recently.

So get some popcorn and enjoy the flick, my treat.

I loved Hamburger Hamlet... I've probably eaten there more than all the other restaurants I've ever been to combined...

Hamburger Hamlet/San Francisco Gate

That's the most upscale hamburger joint I've ever seen - If I ever get back to SF I'l definitely go (assuming it's still open).  Thanks Kawika!

In 1978 this photo started showing up in the entertainment section of newspapers across the country.HeavenCanWait1978notitle.thumb.jpg.67c23a9e1e5687443d3e5939e5f4b7d0.jpg Rather small at first but I noticed it because I loved going to the movies as a kid so I always scanned the newspapers. The photo grew larger each day, for weeks I think.

Eventually my sister told me it was Warren Beatty, who I knew from Bonnie & Clyde 1967. These daily photos certainly had me intrigued and my sister read that it was for a remake of the 1943 film, Heaven Can Wait. Later I discovered that the plot also resembled Down to Earth 1947. So it was finally revealed and the full ads started showing up on television and in print (sorry, folks...no social media to promote it!)

Anyway, my sister's friend from high school called her and asked us if we wanted to go see the movie at our local drive-in theater. My sister asked me if I wanted to go. I said, "Do I want to go...Is the Pope Catholic?!?!" Alright, I didn't say that but I had recently heard Don Rickles say that on tv!

So she showed up in either a Chrysler or Pontiac sedan, late 1960s model, not sure. It was dark and all I cared about was seeing the movie! I even got to go in my pajamas!

A few times during the movie I got rather "excited" but nothing like the horror I felt during the trailers at the beginning!

It was a very nice warm night and we sat on a blanket beside the car, the the sickeningly sweet smell of honey suckle in the air, munching on who knows what...Then it happened. This popped up (yes, along with something else).NorthDallasForty(1979)movieposter1.jpeg.1250ca03888682c22f055cd7cb98fda6.jpeg

The trailer for North Dallas Forty, coming to a theater near you in 1979. The locker room scenes...

Oh I was humiliated, but fortunately what was going on in my pajama bottoms was only known by me.

I still love locker room scenes.

IMP (In My Pants), one of the best is Number One 1969 starring Charlton Heston.:hubba_hubba-404:Lockerroom1.thumb.jpeg.0fae679bb6a6c9c5647cee6ca8d32227.jpeg
