I'd forgotten that one!

Haven't watched it in years but remembers trying to watch 3 episodes back to back and ended up feeling like my brain was on drugs.  The series seriously messes with your mind

Being allowed to stay up to watch Dr Finlay's Casebook with my grandparents. The episode below probably contributed to me much later on specialising in marine parasitology research. I have also loved the signature tune (The march from Trevor Duncan 's Little Suite) ever since I first heard it 60 years ago.

Yes, it had a "Twilight Zone" quality about it, except that it was always poor Patrick McGoohan who was stuck in the Zone.  I think I got tired of it fairly quickly.

I loved the stylishness of Gerald Harper in Adam Adamant Lives, especially the opera cape and swordstick.

Found a train set on eBay the other day that was identical to my first one - actually I think it was what Dad wanted more than me!

The only two men's grooming products you'd find in British bathroom cabinet in the 1950-60's.

I never had these... but luckily I learned diplomacy when I was quite young... a pair similar to this were hanging in the apartment I rented when I was a student... and I was tempted to go to the manager and tell him I would pay anything to get these hideous lamps out of my apartment... as I was thinking about what to say... he knocked on my door and apologized thst he had forgotten to take them down as he had bought them from the previous person who occupied the apartment.

Dad used Brylcreem from a tube.  Old Spice was a hint toward upscale luxury that was available pretty much everywhere.  UNTIL the male scent market exploded in the middle 1960s with all of the new scents, progressing into the woody scents of the Norwegian-oriented brands.  Such a time to tickle the scent sensors!

In the later 1950s, if you had long hair, you used Brylcreem.  If you had a "flat top", then it was Lucky's Butch Wax.  If a burr haircut, nothing.  And THEN it all changed with Dippity-Doo came around, for males and females!

This Brylcream ad above reminds me of the Leave It to Beaver episode where Wally got caught up in the latest Hairstyle craze.

That's downright pretty compared to the fugly ones my parents had. A lot of the mismatched stuff in our home came from a guy that would pay my dad in merchandise from his store instead of cash. Perhaps that doesn't sound so bad until you hear the other part - that his store was filled with odds and ends from liquidations of failed businesses. Most of it was just hideous.

My maternal grandfather used Old Spice. He was pretty much my favorite person in the whole world, growing up.

My dad had Butch Wax, but after he let his hair grow back in, it was slathered with Vitalis. (Blech - only slightly more pleasant that pouring gasoline on your head.)

this is more trauma than nostalgia, but are they really that different in some cases? it's a stupid "trauma" too. it was the scooby-doo episode "make a beeline away from that feline" or the one with the cat creature. this thing:

MV5BM2Y0YmYyY2YtYTE4YS00ZWI0LWEwODYtZTM3MGMxMzE0NzM4XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTA4NzExMDg@._V1_.jpg.d81c5fc4f748b5e0b306f6065bc839cb.jpg

this episode and this episode alone terrified me for some inexplicable reason. i had nightmares about this thing for years. i don't know why, i can't remember what specifically about this episode, about the cat creature, terrified me so much. and it was literally only this episode. zombie island, with the werecats. absolutely no problem at all. there was an episode of what's new scooby-doo that also had a cat creature, perfectly fine. (though i was older by the time the later cat creatures appeared.) my old fear of this thing is still so ingrained in me that i have not been able to forget it and the utter terror it caused me as a child.

i still don't like looking at it, to be honest. it gives me uncanny vibes.

Yes, Vitalis!  That was more of a lighter petroleum base produce.   LIQUID rather than more of a gel.  What the younger men of '63 used.  What Ford played into as "The Lively Ones".  Otherwise, "The Youth Market".

For me, it's the "candy man" / child catcher in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". Really, that whole film will do a number on a child, but the long-nosed guy luring children with candy to capture them with a net, and enslave them on behalf of Baron Bomburst, was the worst.

Not frightening but an intense dislike. I really hated the Milky Bar kid for some inexplicable reason. Probably, because I have always disliked white and milk chocolate - a bar of Cadbury's Bournville plain was much preferred.

Never knew about Milky Bar, just Nestle's Crunch bar, which I liked.  Only time we really knew about "Cadbury" was at Easter time when the Cadbury chocolate bunnies were everywhere.  Perhaps it was there, just not promoted "in the off seasons"?

Brach's was the dominant candy (everywhere in multiple flavors!) in this area.   Too sweet for my tastes back then and now.  Their main forte was the clear cubicles from which you bought "in volume". by the scoop.  Probably looked amazing to a young kid!
