Dan Rockwell (born July 13, 1991, Dunkirk, NY) is an American fitness model and a certified personal trainer. He currently lives in North Florida. Early days Growing up, Dan Rockwell played various sports, including football, baseball, and wrestling. At the age of 13, he started working out, with his goal to make his body perform at the highest level. He played for his high school football team, having the NFL as his ultimate goal. That changed once his trainer introduced him to bodybuilding, and in his senior year in high school, he enters the USBF natural bodybuilding show, placing first. After that, he won a few more local competitions. Military career After playing a few games for Buffalo State College, injures prevented Rockwell from becoming a professional football player. He decided to join the Florida Army National Guard, living college for a year. He became a mechanic for a black hawk helicopter, and after completing his training, he continued his studies. Fitness and modeling After a few more years competing as a bodybuilder, Rockwell decided to become a fitness model after getting numerous opportunities. In the meantime, he also became a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. While he continues working as a model, Rockwell offers training programs on his site. Influencer Rockwell has over 450k followers on his Instagram page, where he usually posts shirtless and gives advice on bodybuilding and fitness. He also shares moments from his private life and promotes his coaching. Some of his posts reach over 10K likes. Rockwell is also active on YouTube, where he has 17K subscribers. His tips and tricks video often have over 30k views. (An explanatory note for AM members born after the early 1990s: In photo #1, that’s what a rotary-dial, corded telephone looked like before the introduction of keypad dialing and cordless phones. During that era, phones even came in a small selection of colors, like the one shown here, which is artfully coordinated with Rockwell's swimming brief. Normally, the color of the spiral cord connecting the handset to the phone would’ve matched the phone’s color. They must not have been able to find a complete set in baby blue. The cord extending from the back of the phone toward the ground connected to a phone jack in the wall, the same way as a cordless landline phone does today. Customers didn’t own their phones; instead, they had to rent them from the phone company, American Telephone & Telegraph, or AT&T, aka “Ma Bell,” which had almost a complete monopoly on U.S. phone service until the early 1990s. For many years after the colored phones were introduced, AT&T charged extra for any color except plain black. Thus endeth today’s lesson on the history of telephone service.
