@macnasty : The short answer is $$$. The original Colt company changed ownership, and the new owner took the studio in a different (and less appealing, IMO) direction. Photographer Jim French created Colt in 1967, along with a business partner, and ran it using the business name “Rip Colt.” (He continued to use his real name for other erotic “art” photography not connected with the studio.) In this pre-video era, Colt originally produced printed photographic magazines and calendars, focusing on quality photography of “outstanding examples of masculinity.” Surprisingly, and probably uniquely in the industry, cock size doesn’t appear to have been a criterion for “outstanding” masculinity in Colt’s view. Their interest was in fine male physiques, not sex. When VCRs became readily available to consumers, Colt expanded into that segment of the porn business, but videos apparently remained secondary to the printed products. Compared to other studios, Colt produced far fewer videos, and many of those weren’t hard-core porn. Alas, in 2003, just as CDs and DVDs were replacing VCR tape as a distribution medium for videos, French/Colt sold the company to John Rutherford, who had been one of the main directors and driving forces at Falcon Studios. Despite Rutherford's promises to maintain Colt’s quality standards, he quickly dropped most of its printed products, retaining primarily a limited selection of calendars. Most significantly, he also changed the studio’s main focus to hard-core, “suck-and-fuck" CD/DVD videos in the same style as Falcon and the other porn studios, using a brand new stable of younger performers. (Most of the previous Colt models probably weren’t interested in doing hard-core porn, anyway.) So Rutherford’s purchase of Colt marked the end of the studio’s “classic” era. R.I.P. Fortunately for us lovers of the classic Colt style, Rutherford did preserve at least part of the original Colt Studios' “vault” of still prints of the classic models, and some of them have been digitized into large-format, high-resolution images. You can see some of these in various AM forum topics, thanks to @Steve and a few others. The largest collections are of John Pruitt, who was Colt’s most photographed and most popular model, and Doug Perry, another of their most popular models. (Just search for their names using either the “Topics” or “All Content” search options.) While French still owned Colt, he produced a relatively small series of videos titled “Legendary Bodies” that included both Pruitt and Perry, along with a number of their other best-known models, like Carl Hardwick and Pete Kuzak, two of Colt’s bodybuilding bears. (Subscriber’s to Colt Studios’ Website also have access to the digitized images.) Note: I’ve pieced together the description above from various sources that I’ve read over time, so I can’t vouch for the historical accuracy of every single point. But the bottom line is simple: Colt’s stye changed completely under Rutherford’s ownership. BTW, Rutherford’s Colt eventually went bankrupt, and he was never able to pay off the balance of what he owed French from the purchase of the company!

Searching on “Alex Mecum yields more hits than “Alexander Mecum” does. I finally located the photographer’s Website, at least for this project, by searching on “PhoHawk Photo” (the top hits for “PhoHawk” alone just give you lots of photos of the “fauxhawk” hairstyle): http://www.menofutah.com/--propos-de-moi.html The photos were for a “coffee table” book, “Sundancers: Men of Utah.” (Mecum is originally from Utah.) The site warns that the book contains partial nudity, but the Website doesn’t.
