That's what I remember about the 80s:  pretty boys with long dyed hair and makeup, showing more skin than the women they posed with.  No idea who these two are, I did a reverse image search.  This could be a publicity photo for a rock video as much as for a porn film.

This is a promotion photo for a porn flick. I can't remember the girl's name but she is definitely a porn hole.

Warner Brothers Menu 1941

When I was attending UCLA one of my first (show business) jobs was as a tour guide at Universal Studios... the pay was not great (you relied mainly on tips so it worked out pretty well for me being the jovial and charming young man I used to be) but it also gave someone starting out a chance to work as an extra (or gasp have a small speaking part) in whatever was being filmed... the staff cafeteria had been around since about 1914 and the food was pretty good... not as reasonably priced as the Warner Brothers menu... there are dozens of places to eat now and the old cafeteria is being used for storage.

Did you get the chance to enter Soundstage 28 before it was demolished nine years ago?  That was the location of the Paris Opera set from the 1925 Phantom of the Opera

Supposedly it was the oldest surviving set/studio warehouse.

That was part of the tour when I worked there... ironically the Psycho House and Colonial Street and the Downtown area were the  biggest draws for most people... The house they used for The Munsters was a big favorite.

I was not in NY on 9, October 1966 but I did see many of these shows that season. Most memorable were Funny Girl, Mame and Annie Get Your Gun! (The caliber of these shows is why I'm very picky about what I want to pay for to see now)

Maybe it's just me... but a cold bottle of Coke out of one of these machines was the best taste in the world in a hot summer day!

A couple with their hot rod VW in 1970

A cuter car has never been made. The Volkswagen Beetle earned a reputation for being a ‘hippie’ car in the 1960s and 1970s. Groovy folks like this couple adored the Beetle, or Bug, as it was also called, for its affordability, ease of servicing, and drivability. Did you know that the Beetle was originally designed in the 1930s, but with the onset of World War II, it was strictly used as a military vehicle? VW Beetles as civilian cars didn’t really start until the close of the 1940s, but they quickly became popular, especially among the younger generation.

Here's a 1971 Buick Riviera with Boattail ad.

It was the pre-WWII-era pontoon fenders with tapered tails that inspired Buick automotive designer Bill Mitchell to add the boattail to the 1971 Buick Riviera. Mitchell’s vision for the Riviera was for it to be similar to the Corvette Sting Ray, but on a larger scale. A full-sized car, the 1971 Riviera was larger than the previous year’s model. Overall, the end result was a large, impressive, capable car that looked as cool as a smaller speedster, just as this advertisement for the car suggests.

Here's a lucky guy with his cool 1967 Ford Fairlane back in 1978.

They don’t make them like they used to. This groovy dude’s 1967 Ford Fairlane was a sixth-generation vehicle to bear the Fairlane name. There were actually seven generations in all, stretching from 1955 to 1970. In each new generation, the body style was tweaked and upgraded. The Fairlane, named after Henry Ford’s Michigan estate, was the flagship of Ford’s full-size cars. It was available in two-door and four-door models, or as station wagons. It could also be ordered as a soft-top or hard-top convertible.

Little kids hanging out at the corner store in 1960.

Here are a group of kids in the 1960s hanging out in front of the corner store. It is just a hunch, but this store might sell Coca-Cola. All those promotional and advertising signs might seem like overkill, but fast forward a few decades and they are highly sought-after collectibles. Vintage advertising signs, especially for products like Coke with is an American classic, are big ticket items in antique stores. Since it first hit the markets in 1888, Coca-Cola has mastered the brand recognition game with its consistent red and white signs.

I've posted about the Natatorium in Honolulu before Natatorium... it's where I learned how to swim... I also cross trained swimming in the pool when I was training for the Pan Am Games when I was a diver... I came across this on my feed on Fakebook this morning... Lot's of memories here...

57 years ago today, the final episode of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet aired. It aired on ABC from October 3, 1952, through March 26, 1966, starring the real-life Nelson family. After a long run on radio, the show was brought to television, where it continued its success, initially running simultaneously on radio and television. The series stars Ozzie Nelson and his wife, singer Harriet Nelson (née Snyder, professionally Hilliard), and their young sons, David and Eric "Ricky" Nelson. Don DeFore had a recurring role as the Nelsons' friendly neighbor "Thorny".
Currently, reruns of the show are broadcast on Retro Television Network.

Remember this pizza kit? Mom would make the crust and let me and my brothers put on the sauce and cheese.

David Nelson and Patty Hearst  (on the right) played the parents of Traci Lords' character in Cry Baby, and John Waters has said in many interviews that David was one of the nicest people ever to work with.  That's 60's glamour gal Joey Heatherton, second from the left.  David had a great sense of humor, basically playing a parody of the 50's sitcom parent his own parents (in the minds of millions) personified.

Pin on John Waters

I really feel bad for David and for Ricky's kids.  Apparently Rick's ex Kris was a real c*nt.

Kris spent most of Rick’s dwindling fortune on houses, cars, and lavish furnishings. Once Rick initiated divorce proceedings, Kris spent the next ten years in a vindictive, financially draining divorce whose sole purpose was to make Rick’s life a living hell. Consequently, Rick spent 200-300 days a year on the road performing.

During the Christmas season in 1985, Kris (through her attorney) informed Rick he was behind on child support and alimony payments (funny thing, he wasn’t) forcing Rick and his band back out on the road the day after Christmas.  This is when Rick's plane crashed,  killing him along with model Helen Blair (now his fiancee) and band members Bobby Neal, Rick Intveld, Andy Chapin and Pat Woodward, together with his road manager Clark Russell.

As Rick's funeral began, the ex-wife Kris stepped from the limousine into a hostile crowd, which included her own children. David Nelson and Rick’s children eulogized him, and Matthew and Gunnar sang their father’s song Easy to Be Free.  At the end of the services, Kris physically threw daughter Tracy Nelson down to the ground and started hitting her before bystanders intervened. Seems Kris went bananas, having learned she was specifically left out of the will and life insurance money.

Roy Rogers was the No. 1 Western star at the box office for 12 years (1943-1954) and had more merchandise than anyone but Walt Disney. As a kid I had a lot of Roy Rogers merchandise.

The Roy Rogers Show was an American western television series starring Roy Rogers. 100 episodes were broadcast on NBC for six seasons between December 30, 1951 and June 9, 1957. The episodes were set in the prevailing times (1950s) in the style of a neo-Western, rather than the Old West. Various episodes are known to be in the public domain today, being featured in low-budget cable television channels and home video. As kid, it was one of my favorite shows.

On a day like today, 2 April 1955, one of the greatest minds known to mankind, Albert Einstein, creator of the theory of relativity, died.
He was operated on at age 69 (1948) and, finding that a large aneurysm could not be removed, the surgeon elected to wrap it with cellophane to prevent its growth.  However, seven years after Einsteins refused further surgery, the aneurysm ruptured and caused the death of the famous scientist.
