sexes, battle of. popstars: the rivals was a spin-off of the popstars singing competition show that aired in 2002. popstars: the rivals created two rival groups, a boy group and a girl group, with the winner being determined by which group scored the coveted uk christmas number one.

the boy group created was one true voice. they released the double a-side sacred trust / after you're gone which reached number two, losing them the competition. the group remained together for less than a year after the show, disbanding in august 2003.

 

 

the girl group created was girls aloud. they released sound of the underground which debuted at number one, winning them to competition. girls aloud remained together for over ten years before officially splitting in 2013. girls aloud scored 20 consecutive top ten hits, 21 one top tens in total including four number ones, and have sold over 8 million units in the united kingdom. on september 5, 2021 member sarah harding died of complications from breast cancer. in july 2022 the remaining members reunited for a charity event to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. in may 2024 girls aloud will embark on 30 date arena tour to celebrate their legacy and harding's memory.

The radio station would receive a censored and/or edited version of the record to be broadcast over the airwaves.

If the musician was appearing on television, they had to change the lyrics. One of the most famous examples of this was when The Rolling Stones appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1967, performing their hit single, Let's Spend the Night Together. The band and frontman Mick Jagger had to change the lyrics to "Let's spend some time together" Watch Jagger's expression when he looks into the camera singing the "cleaned up" lyrics.
