If you do a search on the 'net for "Queen of Pop" one name and her images come up, again and again.

We'll post music and songs from the "Queen of Soul," "Queen of Disco" etc, today. We'll certainly examine The Who's Quadrophenia. In general, have a good time with the letter "Q" so for now we'll return to the QOP and All Hail the Queen...

Because she makes me feel like a teenager again.

Quaaludes (hypnotic sedative)

This song was written by David Bowie and recorded by the band Mott the Hoople in 1972. It was later recorded by Bowie himself and lead vocalist & pianist Ian Hunter used the original guide vocals Bowie provided for the band and remixed them into the original backing track years later.

The lyrics of the song are interesting and many thought they were singing about Ludes, short for Quaaludes...

All the young dudes
Carry the Ludes
Boogaloo dudes
Carry the Ludes

Here are the actual lyrics followed by the three versions of the song we are interested in today...

Billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he'd kick it in the head when he was twenty-five
Don't wanna stay alive when you're twenty-five

Wendy's stealing clothes from unlocked cars
Freddy's got spots from ripping off stars from his face
Funky little boat race
The television man is crazy
Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks
Man, I need a TV when I've got T. Rex
Hey brother, you guessed, I'm a dude

All the young dudes
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes
Carry the news

All the young dudes
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes
Carry the news

Now Jimmy looking sweet though he dresses like a queen
He can kick like a mule
It's a real mean team
We can love
We can love
And my brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
We never got if off on that revolution stuff
What a drag
Too many snags
Well I drunk a lot of wine
And I'm feeling fine
Gonna race some cat to bed
Is this concrete all around
Or is it in my head
Oh brother, you guessed, I'm a dude

Quiz, pop

Question: Who was another pop Queen, Carly Simon married/about to be married to when she wrote this banger in 1972? What famous rock star did backing vocals for this recording? More importantly, who was this song about?

Queen, The

Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Concert

Australia's Princess(Queen?) of Dance Pop, Kylie Minogue performing live. Live folks, intricate choreographed dance moves...in front of the Queen of England for her Diamond Jubilee celebration. Damn.

She's my same age (extremely close), so I have a special fondness for Ms Minogue.

Queer (An umbrella term for people who are not heterosexual or are not cisgender. Previously a derogatory term.)

Queer folks use the word "breeder" to generally describe heterosexual couples, for obvious reasons.

Kim Deal of the band Pixies, later formed the band, The Breeders.

Note: I often like to use songs that have a video because the stories and videos are often quite interesting. In some cases, I use audio only when it sounds better.

Another queer term is "family" which simply refers to people that are also queer. Often people of any orientation create their own families because their biological family sucks.

Example: The bed and breakfast books breeders during the week, and only family for the weekends.

This song became an LGBTQ+ anthem of sorts and Sister Sledge are very supportive of they gay and queer community.

queen of j-pop, also called the empress of j-pop, ayumi hamasaki. hamasaki is the best-selling solo artist of all-time in japan with over 50 million units sold in the country. she also has the most number one singles for a female artist with 38 and the most consecutive number one singles for a solo artist with 25. she has had a record 54 albums place in the top ten of the oricon album's chart (she has released many remix albums and compilations).

and now for an incredibly small selection of her hits.

hamasaki is one of three artists to be considered a queen of j-pop.

Thank you, ElfredNox, for posting those songs by Ayumi Hamasaki and all the background info about her.

I like Trance/electronic dance music, hypo-trance, etc and I don't think too much of that is being recorded now?

Since MTV no longer airs music videos and I don't know about VH1, not sure where someone interested in current, or old, music goes. Any suggestions, folks.

I have a Spotify account, which I forget to use.

I really like this guy, Marco Foster...

Queen of Disco Debbie and Blondie

Definitely getting some some very cool Groove Blues/Funk Disco Rock/Reggae vibes here from this 1974 session/recording of 1978's Heart of Glass.

Queen of Disco, Donna Summer

I feel some Trance music here...or is it too slow?

Wikipedia, "Trance music is typically characterized by a tempo between 120 and 150 beats per minute (BPM),[7] repeating melodic phrases[7] and a musical form that distinctly builds tension and elements throughout a track often culminating in 1 to 2 "peaks" or "drops"."

What about this sexy 17 minute long version of Love to Love You Baby from 1975? Pure discofunk? Love the horns and then when the strings (violins) come in the syncopation. Brilliant.

Queen (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 1994 motion picture)

Charlene, I've Never Been to Me 1976

Hey lady, you, lady, cursin' at your life
You're a discontented mother and a rich inventive wife
I've no doubt you dream about the things you'll never do
But I wish someone had a talked to me like I wanna talk to you

Ooh I've been to Georgia and California, oh, anywhere I could run
Took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

Please lady, please, lady, don't just walk away
Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me still living in your eyes
Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived a million lies

Oh I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece
While I sipped champagne on a yacht
I moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things
That a woman ain't s'posed to see
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

Hey, you know what paradise is? It's a lie, a fantasy we create about
People and places as we'd like them to be but you know what truth is?
It's that little baby you're holding, and it's that man you fought with
This morning, the same one you're going to make love with tonight
That's truth, that's love

Sometimes I've been to cryin' for unborn children
That might have made me complete
But I, I took the sweet life and never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that cost too much to be free
Hey lady, I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece
While I sipped champagne on a yacht)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to cryin' for unborn children)
