If we are going to be particular about actual gladiator cock, they would have pulled the foreskin as far forward as possible and tied it with a long blade of dried grass -- the fashion of the day. The display of an circumcised cock (or a large one) was considered vulgar and humiliating. However, since a gladiatorial contest was, among other things, a freak show, a circumcised cock would add to the show. I like the pic.

That's really interesting. Is there anywhere to research that information? Why a blade of long grass? Why was a circumcised cock considered vulgar? I'm fascinated.

I suggest reading The Roman Gladiators and the Colosseum by from Charles River Editors. Romans used long blades grass much as we do string. Before hitting law school, I got a BA in classical literature (Latin & Greek). There are many texts describing the gladiatorial culture of Rome, but few have been publish in English
