Shame that the short story I posted about how we met disappeared in the great AM crash.

Would it be possible for you to post it again?

God bless Josh Logan! Richard Harrison is also featured in the movie. I think they both went on to make movies in Italy. I seem to remember that one of Clark's was quoted in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as part of the schlock Italian movie DiCaprio's character 'starred' in.

Sadly, when I tried to retrieve my copy from a usb memory stick said stick failed, so the six semi-autobiographical stories that I posted were lost. There is a possibility that they are buried in a data dump but Joel did not think it would be a good idea to for me to be part of Project Phoenix. He did say he might be able help me manually search for them and I supplied him with titles and posting dates but that was in early February and I have heard nothing since - I assume that he has more than enough on his plate keeping the site functioning to find time to search on my behalf.

Recently found the programme for the first time I went to a London concert hall to hear a professional orchestra.

I remember my first symphonic concert. . .I was in 3rd grade (this was 1963 or 1964) and they bussed a bunch of classes down to the State Fair Music Hall to listen to the Dallas Symphony.  Can you imagine a concert hall full of 9 and 10 year olds when the orchestra breaks into the William Tell Overture :m0168:

In TX, they would have expected The Lone Ranger to gallop down the center aisle on his white horse to "save the day".

I'm quite jealous you got to hear Karajan conduct!  About a year later I heard the 1812 Overture in Albert Hall.  It was quite a stirring experience!  I don't remember the ensemble or the conductor, alas!

It was an unforgettable experience, since it was Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic when both were, imho,  at the very peak of brilliance. There were just two works:

Beethoven:Symphony No 6
Richard Strauss: Ein Heldenleben

I rarely discuss this but I had a dream about this last night... I was a passenger on Aloha Airlines flight 243 from Hilo to Honolulu with an unscheduled stop on Maui...

I have just realised that it exactly 60 years since I was taken to the Natural History Museum, London for the first time and being in awe of the size of the Blue whale. I would later see it quite often when I visited the NHM when I was involved in collaborative research with NHM scientists, eventually becoming an Honorary Research Fellow of the museum.

@Josselin commented about the G. I. Joe Footlocker ad that I posted over in another thread; and, I thought I'd reply here.  I still have mine, although I don't use it for what it was intended.  The compartmented tray is perfect for organizing a small magnifying glass, stamp tongs, pens & pencils and other stamp collecting items.  The "chest" itself contains an assortment of stamp mounts ranging in size from 20mm to 35mm in height.  A few decades ago, I cut several thick rubber bands apart and stapled them to the outside of the lid so that advertising & informational brochures could be kept inside the lid.  Unfortunately, age deteriorated the rubber; and, ads went out-of-date, so I don't keep anything there anymore   Don't ask me what happened to the G. I. Joe action figure nor any of his associated paraphenalia :t3619:

I don't think I've ever been to San Francisco without buying & bringing home bread... it was much easier when they had kiosks in the terminal at SFO.

And THEN, Southwestern Bell installed a utility to notify the customer when their handset was off the hook.  Sounds which got louder the longer they went and messages, too.  The alternative was to turn the ringer volume to minimum.  Just had to remember to turn it back up later!

There weren't many British households in the 1960's that didn't have a drawer stuffed with Green Shield stamps and books.
