don't know when this was first published; but, do you remember the pay-phone credit cards all the phone companies gave their customers? :t2041:

Free school milk (1/3 pint) from ages 5-11 in British schools until the 1970's. I dislike milk as a drink and this was a daily torment.

It transformed the health Britain's children, though. Along with the cod-liver oil capsules, and that weird, boiled-tasting orange concentrate.

From what I recall, taking cod liver oil was supposed to be some sort of punishment for doing bad things?  In the last few months, I have seen many comments about it actually being GOOD for the body and brain.  Who knew, back then?

I don't remember cod-liver oil capsules but I do recall the orange concentrate and the free rose-hip syrup that my sister had as a baby. There was also National dried milk formula which unfortunately caused vitamin D -induced hypercalcaemia in babies in its early formulations. The tins adorned garages for decades after use as ideal storage for all those useful screws, nuts and bolts that can't be thrown out. I inherited several from my Dad!

I have a friend who lives in Huntington Beach California... his parents bought their house when it was first being developed... you had to be a true visionary... the house and property are worth a fortune now...

Anyone remember banana seats on bicycles? My bike looked something like the one in this picture, except it was orange with a black banana seat with silver specks. Wide tires and more compact than our old Schwinn; I think the model was a "Sidewinder" but don't recall the brand:

We were given the capsules to boost health. There was an option to take a teaspoonful, it tasted disgusting.

Mine had lots of bunting on the back, a foxtail on the handlebars and plastic strips on the spokes that made a lot of noise while riding.

Plastic strips might have been more durable than old baseball cards?  Back then, most plastics were too stiff and would bend the spokes, I suspect.  In the earlier 1960s.

I never actually  had a bike that was just mine. They were all hand-me downs from my older brothers, including the orange one with the banana seat. Living on a gravel road with steep hills, I didn't ride much around home. Instead, I'd have to convince my parents to take my bike with us when we visited my grandparents or my dad's brother, or when they visited family friends who had a farm, where I could ride all over, thanks the hard-packed dirt paths created over many decades.

My first full-size bike - a Raleigh 3-speed tourer and my school transport until I went to uni.

Um...we have six phones. Upstairs: My office, husband's office, bedroom. Main floor: Front living room, and back living room. Basement: At the bar. They're all the same color, though. I can remember as a kid when my parents installed a second phone in their bedroom - after my brother started driving, in case of an emergency. Or maybe it was after he rolled my dad's truck.

Phones with long, stretchy receiver cords, too!  When your mother could walk across the kitchen fixing a meal and not miss a word.

The original pay-as-you-go 'phone. Lift the receiver, dial the number, put in 4 pennies from the loose change wearing a hole in your pocket and press button A when connected. If nothing happens press button B to get your coins back.

That was also when SWBell was the most powerful company in the nation.  As several tv show private detective shows illustrated, anybody with a SWBell-type uniform could get access pretty much anywhere on the pretense of "Fixing the Line".  Those people were trusted very much, then as now.  Generally, that company was a bullet-proof as one can be, which was a point of pride for Americans, back then.  That, plus the USPS, too.  It was a different world back then.

Anyone ever play the "Masterpiece" board game? (We never payed attention to the character aspect of the game, but otherwise enjoyed it.)
