Very much agree.  Most porn jumps straight to the action (often even cutting out the remove-clothing part).  Lots of us get turned on by innuendo, a slow lead-up, not being sure sex is coming but being aroused just thinking it's possible.  This would require better writers than most porn studios can afford -- and, no doubt, some of their audience would be bored by it, would be screaming "Cut to the chase".  But there are those of us who go for slow, lengthy lead-ins before the heavy-duty action gets underway.

In the 1980s, there were some epic gay porn videos done by some of the major studios.  At the time, too, there were several movie theaters (with several different videos going on, not unlike a normal 5-plex regular theater, but smaller seating), where these videos were shown.  For one admission fee, you could watch as many as desired, which was neat.  Being they were gay-oriented, no real big deal if you sat next to a stranger, but you still had the option to "not participate" if you desired.  

These videos were major productions with major stars and such.  Nothing like a sleazy short film at all.  Plots, scenes, build-ups, "rewards", and all.  Falcon has their "Aspen" films, every few years.  In short, these were all "have to see" films.  When I was following Rex Chandler, there was "View to a Thrill", which was a detective-type video set in Hawaii.  I suspect that some of these features could have played at the old Knob Hill Theater in SF?

The old Catalina studio seemed to be famous for replaying and extending the activities related to the final money shots.  It was edited nicely so unless you caught on, the performers were not as "long-orgasmed" as the video implied.  Just different cameras and angles, which gave that illusion.
