Australian Parliament Votes in Favor of Gay Marriage

Today (that is, already Friday in Australia), the Australian Parliament’s House of Representatives voted in favor of same-sex marriage in that country.  The Australian Senate had already passed the bill last week.  The royal Governor-General immediately signed the bill on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, Australia’s official Head of State.

Ian Thorpe, who won multiple Gold and Silver Medals for Australia in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, was prominent in the celebrations.  He came out as gay in 2014.  (Many of us who were paying attention to those Olympic Games were openly drooling over the studly swimmer.  Not the most handsome of Olympians, maybe, but still….)
