As far as Des Moines goes, I was there once or twice a month for 2 years  when I was on a state commission working on care for the disabled.  Once a year they have the state fair; otherwise, visitors have to pay or make their own entertainment: not dead, but somnolent.

@Coltmann, I meant that at 76, I probably have an old man smell.  And I'm sorry about your loss; I mean, if you cared for your father for 8 years (past tense), I assume your father has passed.  I have a little idea what that's like, for I cared for my maternal grandmother the last months of her life.  Sorry for the confusion.

no problem. at 75, I am totally averse to offending my peers, so I wash as much as I can. my totally cute physical therapist got a haircut today, and explained why I can't wash my backside with my left hand. Dad has gone to the great flotilla in the sky, and we have a triple whammy for the date of 11th September - my brother got married, the world trade center attack happened, and Father passed on.

As I said, I sympathize with your loss.  At our age, there have been losses. I have a brother, too, an identical twin named Steve.  He was the brave one: he volunteered for the draft to Vietnam, where he served as a non-combatant medic with the troops.  He earned a purple heart, a bronze star, and a silver star.  I, on the other hand, was a school teacher.  Steve lives outside of D.C. and works for the government.  Neither of us married, though Steve almost did.  I have a sister, too - in California; she is widowed with 2 sons, who are in their 50's.  That's the family now.  Mom and Dad passed in 2013 within months of each other in their 94th years.

I don't know you well, but what I know, I like, so - no offense intended - I'm going to flirt with you if you don't mind.  Don't worry; I don't travel, and I'm harmless.  Enjoy your physical therapist; my last therapist (last month) was a cheerful and pleasant woman.  Have a good evening, Jon

A doll that encourages children (girls, presumably) to get physically violent with babies?  I wonder if they ever came out with "Baby Black-and-Blue Eye", the doll that gets a black-and-blue eye when you hit it, but splash it with cold water and the black disappears!
