Fun Movie Question, discuss

So my partner and I were discussing the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers... and he was saying how he was satisfied with the ending. We compared it to the most recent version of the movie, Invasionwith Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.

We win at the end

In the original we also win, but not til the LAST second, literally... "he was telling the truth! call washington! <credits>"

In the 1978 version we dont win

 

So here is my question to all of you

 

WHAT movies can you think of where the good guys don't win?

Im not talking about how Jason or Freddy kinda survive at the end

 

I'm talking about a movie like Eden Lake, where two people are hunted and tortured... and they never wind up getting away and the people that do it to them walk away freely

Or a movie like The Strangers, where they terrorize a couple, and also get away with it

 

I ask because recently, all movies don't want to have a happy ending anymore - I dont know, to make it realistic?

It's a movie, and I want to be happy at the end. When do you think this started? The trend of bad guys winning?
