No Fly Zone!

I hope no-one is hoping to fly in and out of the UK (and possibly other bits of Western Europe) today.

 

The UK is CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!

 

From the BBC Website:

 

"Airline passengers are facing massive disruption across the UK after an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland grounded planes.

 

The Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) said no flights would be allowed in or out of UK airspace from midday to 1800BST amid fears of engine damage."

 

 

There is talk that the cloud could hang around for days!! :eeek:

 

I believe the volcano is still spewing out ash so goodness knows how long this will go on. :o

No one is going anywhere at all. No planes moving until at least 7am tomorrow morning at the earliest!! From what they are saying on the news, I'm not sure that is going to be happening anyway. :shock:

ps. Apparently the "cloud" is safe enough, no need to be concerned. It has reached us over here as well. Bit like a science fiction movie.

I wonder if airlines are going to use this as an excuse to impose yet another fee. Some are looking at charging for carry-ons now and for use of the lavatory on-board. We need to recoop the money, so now we will have an oxygen mask fee, AC fee, seatbelt fee, window shade fee, window seat fee, aisle seat fee, barf bag fee, ash-free flying fee, ....

 

But I digress. I do find it interesting how an eruption that seemed to be so minor in the news has since caused so many headaches. Maybe this is Iceland's revenge for the global economic crisis.

I don't think there are any health risks associated with this "cloud"...or no serious ones.

 

I think I have watched way too many episodes of Dr Who and I have all these conspiracy theories running through my head LOL

Harmless but expensive - about 60% of European flights are cancelled.

 

For us, it will be in Scotland first, so we will know what to expect. Apparently only dirty cars and a load of dusting that awaits us.
