The Last Film You Watched?

Image result for the day after tomorrow

I would watch just about anything with Jake Gyllenhaal.   But I try to catch this one whenever I see it is on.

What is unsettling is that the disbelief of the Vice President in the movie so closely resembles some of our current politician's beliefs as to the effects of global warming (or whether it even exists).  That to me is  disturbing.

Image result for undertow movie

Contracorriente (a.k.a. Undertow) is a love story. A ghost story. An unforgettable experience. The film does a fantastic job of juxtaposing the pressure to conform to heterosexual society with the desire to follow one's heart regardless of the consequences. Far more realistic than most American or European films in that this little gem, from Peru, provides no easy answers or simplistic moralizing. Keep the Kleenex handy.

The last film I watched (on the tv) was was one of those cgi animated thingies. Gnomeo & Juliet. I never heard of it before, but liked it, big kid that I am.

The last thing I saw in the theatre was "ITChapter Two" I walked out on the beginning... (if you plan on seeing it be warned the opening is pretty horrific)... maybe I can try again when it's on PPV or on DVD.

The last thing I saw all the way through was last night... I was watching my neighbors niece and nephew for a few hours ( I have about 10 or 12 movies that are age appropriate)

Ghost Light.

Supposedly a dark comedy, without the laughs; there were decent performance in some of the smaller roles.  About a cursed summer stock production of Macbeth.  Nice re-teaming of Cary Elwes and Carol Kane 30+ years after The Princess Bride.

I watched IT Chapter Two last week. It isn't as good as the first one, but still enjoyable. Like the first one, it has horror, humor, and good friendship story. If you liked the first one, definitely check it out.

Watched 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, 'The Happytime Murders (the office scenes were hilarious) and 'Weeds' with Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Kevin Nealon  on Netflix, this past weekend.

Jules et Jim (and oldie, but a goodie)

I just watched that a few weeks ago. I really love most all of Francois Truffaut films... there are a few that I love more than others... if you have not read "Hitchcock Truffaut" bu Francois Truffaut I can't recommend it highly enough; as it offers brilliant insight to both directors.

Thanks for the recommendation; I will check it out. Valentina Cortese's recent passing prompted me to rewatch Day for Night -- what a performance! Since then I've been getting reacquainted with the Truffaut catalog. Great stuff.

The two that I've seen more than the others are "The Last Metro" and "Day For Night" (most likely because they were the two that had the most commercial and critical success in the US) but the films like "Mississippi Mermaid" and "The Soft Skin" although I don't see them frequently I always learn something new from them as my own experience has evolved since the time before and I think. that is one of the key aspects that make his films extraordinary.

I also recently watched again "Love On The Run"... I've often wondered if Truffaut had lived longer if he would have continued the series on Antoine Dione or at least included him in another story.... also I recently watched "Small Change" (I had not seen it since it was released) and I was amazed at how much more I got out of it this time.

As it was a cloudy and cool day here in New York and I was feeling a bit sluggish, I treated myself to a Bette Davis double feature:

Plein Soleil, the original French adaptation of "The Talented Mr Ripley."

Alain Delon never looked better and delivers one of his best performances (although Le Samurai is probably his best work).

The Private Life of Henry VIII. A delightfully saucy (pre-Code) script and an Oscar-winning performance by Charles Laughton make this an enjoyable romp. Icing on the cake: Robert Donat as dashing and handsome as ever.

A Moment in the Reeds. Slow-moving, predictable gay melodrama from Finland that I kept watching because I found one of the leads very attractive. Sadly, there was no full frontal nudity; just a few brief ass shots.

I love Aaron Eckhart😍

Ok, so the writing could have been better. The action sequences were epic!

Bette Davis...one of my total favorite actresses. I love these two movies.

I love Dark Victory. It is a tear jerker but absolutely wonderful. Bette Davis even said herself in an interview decades later that she thought she did a "very good" job in that one.
