Still Worshipping the Godliness of Model Thom Evans
Even though he is no longer one of the Rugby Gods of the Arena, Thom Evans the model will continue to live on forever through a legacy of powerful images representing male beauty, strength and sexuality. Thom made history in 2010 when he decided to do full frontal nudity during a mainstream calendar shoot with other rugby players. The project was supposed to celebrate the beauty and athleticism of the male body and the photographer tried hard to make the images sexy and revealing without exposing genitals. This meant a lot of butt shots, and props from towels to balls to foam and anything that might helped to preserve the modesty of the professional athletes. Many were well known in their countries and in Europe and were sports celebrities.
Thom and his brother Max were captured in a series of shots that featured nude wrestling and brotherly affection that was homoerotic if not borderline incestuous in theme. The images featured Thom's gleaming muscular body in black and white, and at the front and center was Thom's sizeable manhood in a semi state of arousal. They were definitely not in line with the rest of the calendar images, and created a huge controversy with the media calling the photoshoot bizarre.
Now over a decade later, the images have become iconic and culturally significant. It was a milestone moment that propelled male nudity into the mainstream, and paved the way for other more adventurous calendar projects such as Warwick Rowers that featured college athletes and full frontal nudity.
Thom was able to parlay his amazing body and good looks into a successful career as a male model after retiring from Rugby. He is in high demand as an underwear model. His unique beauty and sex appeal have helped inspire photographers to elevate commercial shoots into an opportunity to create artistic works.
