From a photoshoot by Pedro Virgil for one of the Aussie "Gods of Football" series of calendars for charitable causes. (The Aussies' use of "football" and "footy" is ambiguous and confusing. They seem to use it to refer to rugby, Aussie Rules Football, and "soccer." For the "Gods" calendar series, most of the men were ruggers, like Osbourne.) Other Aussie rugby stars who appeared in the series included these four studs: Michael Witt Kayne Lawton David "Wolfman" Williams Nick Youngquest, posing for a testicular cancer awareness campaign Lawton, Williams, and Youngquest also professionally modeled underwear and swimwear.

Aussie rugger David "Wolfman" Williams is probably the better-known brother of John Williams (above), although John is the better-looking one, IMO. (He's flat-out handsome -- we're talking Rock Hudson's league.) Both brothers have done photoshoots for the "Gods of Football" and "Naked for a Cause" series of fundraising calendars for charity, like the images above and below. David was the cover model and "Mr. April" for the 2009 calendar. (In Australia, the term "football" can be ambiguous. It can refer to soccer, rugby, or Australian Rules Football. The only resemblance of Aussie Rules Football to the US and Canadian versions is the shape of the ball.) When are US college and professional sports teams and leagues going to jump on this bandwagon?

Photo #1 is a really nice, touching photo — and I don’t just mean the two guys’ hot bods! #2 is former Aussie rugby all-star David “Wolfman” Williams from a photo shoot for the 2009 “Gods of Football” calendar. Here are a few more shots of his gorgeous butt from the same photo shoot, including one very alluring “peekaboo” shot. Williams is almost enough to make me a rugby fan. Grrr …! (In Australia, “football,” or “footy,” is an ambiguous term. It can refer to rugby, soccer, or Australian Rules Football. The latter is nothing like U.S. or Canadian football.)

Total cutie — one of my longtime faves. Lawton was one of the players selected for the Aussie “Gods of Football 2009” calendar. He’s retired from rugby now, bulked up, and modeling professionally for — surprise! — underwear and swimwear ads. (In picture #1, that doesn’t seem to be a towel he’s wrapped in or is wearing; I don’t know what it is. #2-3 are from his more recent photo shoot for TEAMM8. He’s definitely aging nicely. Yum!)

Nick Youngquest, former Aussie Rugby League superstar and sometime underwear/swimwear model. Photo #1 is a color copy of his photo for the rugby edition of the Aussie “Gods of Football” calendar, part of Aussie athletes’ “naked for a cause” campaign to promote breast cancer awareness. (There was also an edition done by the Australian Football League. The AFL plays Australian-rules football, which isn’t to be confused with either soccer or U.S. and Canadian-style football.) #2 is a black-and-white copy of the calendar page. The shot turned out a bit more risqué than the editors intended, but they published it anyway. Gotta love the innate Aussie sense of adventure and derring-do. This photo was taken before he got all inked-up, and his torso was shaved or waxed smooth for it. #3 is a poster Younquest did for a national testicular cancer awareness campaign in the United Kingdom. #4 is a black-and-white image from the same photo shoot. The Aussies, Brits, French (for example, the "Dieux du Stade” calendar series), and perhaps others are way ahead of U.S. amateur and professional sports organizations in baring almost all of it to raise funds for or awareness of worthy causes. Unfortunately, U.S. sports organizations must be either too homophobic or too concerned about their public image to get on this bandwagon.
