Hello. Thank you for the opportunity and taking the time to interview me! Could we start off with talking a little about yourself and your background? You live in Perth, Australia ... I was born in Perth Western Australia and have lived there all my life. My background is New Zealand, Dutch and Australian. I have been working as a carpenter but have recently applied to become a police officer. How did you get into modelling? I?ve always had an interest in being a model but never really did anything to pursue it, until I was approached by an agent and offered a job. That?s when I first started modelling and for that I?m very glad! (Arlen laughs) What do you enjoy the most about it? The thing I enjoy most about modelling would have to be all the great people that you meet in the industry and doing shows in front of a crowd! I have really enjoyed my career as a model so far. How do you prepare before a photoshoot? A lot of hard work in the gym! (more laughs) I spend about 5 days a week in the gym with a specific training program to make sure I look lean and shredded for my shoots. I follow a strict diet containing high protein and some good carbs like sweet potatoes and brown rice. Also drinking heaps of water and eating a lot of veggies. You have a great physique. How do you keep in shape and healthy? Do you practise any sport? As I mentioned earlier I spent about 5 days a week in the gym training, but when I?m not in the gym I enjoy surfing in the winter and summer months and training in kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which keeps me fit all year round! I think it?s really important to stay in shape all year round because it makes you feel so much better physically and mentally. What are your top three favourite gym exercises and why? Flat bench press, preacher curls and squats are probably my favourite. Without these exercises you couldn?t achieve half of your results! What?s the best form of cardio for you? I really enjoy the group circuit training at kickboxing because there is a large variety of exercises and you have people around you to help push you and it?s a hell of a lot better than spending 30mins on a treadmill! Cardio for me is more to stay healthy than to cut down body fat I find. By keeping my weights the same but changing my diet I can cut down well. How do you keep motivated? I love fitness and sport and so do most of my friends, so staying motivated isn?t really an issue! But if I?m feeling flat I chuck in my headphones and blast my favourite tunes whilst I work out, which always gets me pumped! Also training with a friend so that you can keep each other motivated helps a lot. How do you fit training and fitness into your life? Is it a difficult thing to achieve? It?s only difficult if you make it! If you have a clear goal on what you want to achieve (cut down body fat, bulk up a bit or maybe just increase your fitness) and are motivated then you can make time for it! After work I normally train in the gap between dinner and bedtime so it?s pretty easy You are a very good looking guy ? what do you think is your best asset? (Arlen laughs) ... well I receive a lot of comments about my broad shoulders so I have to go with them! And if you could change one thing about your body, what would that be? As weird as it sounds I would probably change my legs because one is shorter than the other, (more laughs) which puts a lot of stress on the rest of my body! How do you approach a challenge? I assess the best way to go about the challenge, and then I do as much as I possibly can to beat it! What do you do in your down time? In my down time you?ll probably find me at the beach or in the crowd of a festival. Do you have any role models? People who inspire you? Yes definitely I have a few! Muhammad Ali, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Aziz Shavershian all these guys have inspired me in my sport and fitness goals! Now a few quick fun questions if we may? Do you think you are a good date? (Arlen laughs) I?d hope so! A good date is always important! What do you think is the secret to a good relationship? Trust. Are you a brief man or a boxer kinda guy? Briefs for sure What do you listen to on your iPod? I have a bit of a variety but mostly a bit of gangsta rap, trap music, electronic and Dubstep. Your favourite song/piece of music to play while training/running? My favourite song would have to be alpha by WandW. What kind of movies do you like? A good action or war movie is always good. What can?t you live without? My phone and music You wouldn?t know, but I?m very good at ... You probably wouldn?t pick it but I play the piano and guitar (more laughs) and I also am pretty competitive on the ps3! What?s the best thing ever invented? The best thing invented would have to be the mobile phone What three words describe you best? Honest, determined and competitive. One last question Arlen, where do you see yourself and what would you like to be doing in 10 years time? In ten years time I hope to be a full time fireman and qualified carpenter and hopefully travelling the world taking my modelling with me. Arlen, it has been a real pleasure to interview you!
