had a relative who "worked in Hollywood" (she was a private secretary to a major director before going to work at MTM - mary tyler moore's production company. she talked to about how louis mayer - of MGM - had no sense of humor and did an impression of him that others in the know said was "spot on'") essentially - EVERYBODY in the industry knew rock hudson was gay the "secret" had to be kept from "middle america" - the population that continued to believe liberace just was a good, wholesome lad who loved his mom....and his "brother", george 's relative had loaned a car to rock hudson a numerous ocassions he was a very pleasant - easy to like - fellow who put on no airs unfortunately - Rock Hudson had to live in a time when not only did Hollywood have a strong anti-jewish sentiment (read Growing Up With Chico by Maxine Marx on details of that) but a world where homosexuality would get you arrested that so many performers have announced in recent times that they are gay or bi is a VERY recent thing moving pictures might have discovered sound approximately 100 years ago but having a genuine moral backbone is still in development
