Gary Conway

After "Land of the Giants" and by 1973 Gary's career was pretty much washed up.  In need of income,

he decided to pose for Playgirl.  The photo spread was nice but the biggest disappointment

for his male fans was he didn't show his cock and balls. I always thought that should have been a requirement by the Playgirl coordinator for a centerfold candidate.  If you want to do a spread and get a paycheck, you have to show your cock, both flaccid and fully erect, and your balls. Gary had a great body but he may have been lacking in the penis department. Probably the reason he did not want to "share the beef".  I have studied some of his semi-nude  modeling photos from the mid-1950's. He was posing semi-nude (and possibly nude) for gay photographers for gay-oriented magazines during his college years at UCLA.  It was an opportunity  back then for  good looking young men to earn some money in exchange for posing and providing stud service to the enthusiastic photographers.  Also opportunities for television and film parts for being willing to ball the  right agents or producers.  The attached Body Beautiful magazine cover   was from an issue  published in April/May  and  June 1956 when Gary Carmody, his real name,  was 20. Years later, in the mid-90's, a gay male fan revealed he went to a autograph session for  Gary attended by mostly overweight  women. He passed his autograph fee and  Playgirl issue to Gary. After Gary took his money  and signed the magazine he passed it back to him and with a glare said "Now, get the fuck outa here!"  What a cruel thing to say to someone who had really admired him  for years and was crushed.

Maybe Gary felt frustrated that in his  late 50's/early 60's he was reduced to signing autographs for money from fat old broads and gay men who were still interested in a has been.  No excuse to act like that.  He should have been grateful and gracious.  It was very disappointing for me to read.
