Just want to ask...

 

Does anyone really give a damn? Their baby mama drama's been all over the tv and newpapers and everything else. They actually paid huge somes of money to have pictures of the baby right from the birth.

 

IMHO, this is all ridiculous. This whole thing was planned methinks. Brad Pitt's with Jennifer Aniston for like 8 years but doesn't have a baby - but with Angelina for a year and out comes a baby? I think they did it so the entertainment business could get a new thing to fawn over, and the added press could allow Angelina and Brad to demand more per movie.

 

And if I'm wrong, I'm still tired of hearing about the damn thing.

I don't care about celebrities' private lives either. In fact I don't really care about anybody's private life.

 

I am often surprised and shocked by people who notice what other people are doing (say in the neighbourhood or at work). Some people are VERY nosey, they'll know what time certain people arrive home from work, they'll know that Mrs Smith has changed her curtains to a hideous shade of purple, they'll know that Jim hasn't been coming to visit Sarah very much recently, and wonder whether they aren't getting along. How can anybody notice this stuff? Why is it important to their own lives? It is beyond me. Even if Angelina had a 2 headed baby and could fart to the tune of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, it would make NO difference to my life.

 

WHY does anybody care? I think it must just be people get bored with their own lives and look to other's hoping their's is more interesting and it's like a voyeur thing, perhaps they even feel a part of it, so it makes them feel like they belong, and therefore not alone.

 

I am so unobservant when it comes to other people. I often think I'd make a terrible witness of a crime because I simply don't notice what other people are doing, wearing etc. I live in my own little world most of the time.....

@cupboardy you are so right they were already worth a mint and now this :blink: this baby will no doubt be stunning as hell, I would like to see the baby pictures though not that I am into prying into thier lives or really give a shit what they are doing, I just like to look at babies, they are (or at least to me) the closest we shall ever be to heaven on this earth, such beauty and innocence and pure of heart i always find a warming in my sole and a smile on my face when ever I see one, :P

Well, Celebrity Cult discussion. If you want to see movies (read sport/leaders/entertainment whatever), and you want those movies to be viewed broadly, then it is inevitable you will create celebrities. And when we view those who are great on the screen, inquisitive human nature surely dictates that we will want to know more about them as people - cause in the end we dont just objectify their screen character, its their personality we are interested in. Obsession is an unhealthy state at times agreed, but again obsession is a human characteristic that also drives excellence, innovation, dedication - not all bad things in the right proportions.

the brad and angie baby pic would have made somebody a lot of money when it was taken by paparazzi, so by giving pics to the highest bidder and donating the money to charity, they seem to have taken the high road in this situation.

 

i think i go back and forth on celebrities. i had a certain admiration for paris hilton, in that she was so stupid and awful that i was pleased that she was so famous. maybe my sense of humor with the world will catch up, but that she is still famous, and still generating income based on being "her" is just so embarrassing and horrifying that it kind of stuns me.

 

but to get right down to it, the moral/political/cultural vacuum that i feel we live in (where i live in the u.s., and probably the rest of the world) is the creator of such diversions. i know more about brad and angelina than i do about what is going on in darfur for example, and i should be fucking ashamed of myself for that. but at the same time i hear a lot more about one subject than the other, both in the news and real life conversation.

Aside from Kiwi everyone states their hatred for celebrity hype. But, judging from the length of this thread I would say we all love celebrities. We either love them or we love to hate them...

 

I think the majority of them are superficial, lying, overexposed farts. And by the way Cupboardy, Angie and Brad were voted most beautiful according to the same people who have time to read the gossip rags (too much time on hand). Jolie without make-up is plain Jane and Brad he's just over rated.

 

Despite her humanitarian work (UN ambassador), the bitch is a nutcase and a homewrecker (whether or not Brad instigated the overnight fuck)?

I soo hear you Cupboardy!!!! With vancouver being a cheaper alternative to filming in Los Angles, we get a tonne of that smurf through both the american and canadian media. We do have some good media sources though (unlike our neighbours to the south)... and thank god for the BBC!

As for the BBC - That and the St George Flag are pretty much the only things that make me feel patriotic.

 

When I see American Shows such a s 'Extreme Makeover' every few minutes they show a reminder of what you've just seen and whats coming up, and you can clearly see where the adverts have been taken out to be shown in the UK.

 

Our Advertising Funded Channels over here have a commercial break every 15 minutes or so and that's too much for me, USA progs seem to be every few minutes!! (I've even heard of shows where they put adverts in just before the end credits of a program!!!)

 

Nightmare! - So do you get 'BBC Canada' or something then? (or BBC America)

I think the BBC is (by definition) a british publically owned enterprise. But you can get "BBC World" sort of everywhere it is very good. We get lots of nature programs in france made by the BBC but sold to the equivalent french terestial TV chanels (david antenborough). They are cool.

Oh yeah, I know thats its specifically a British Coorporation (4 years doing Media & Journalism at College then 3 years doing Film, TV & Radio Studies at University weren't entirely wasted on me :P ) but on American programs you sometimes hear them refer to 'BBC America' (British programming sold to an American Audience) so I wondered if there were others...

do you mean GREAT LITERATURE or more modern books? it is hard for me to sit down and read, regardless, my attention span is not great if i get bored.

 

i no longer start reading magazine articles near the end to see if they seem interesting, so that's a step forward for me at least.

Your post. We do have the power to control the situation. If no one buys gossip mags then there is no point in producing gossip mags. Here in Canada we just had a magazine (Scoop) fold after only 8 months on the shelf... no one was buying it.
