Behind and in front of the Scenes

Sorry guys, it's not what you usually expect from blip.

They say one plus one does not always equal two.

It's nothing to do with maths, it's often something to do BTS.

Why do people want to make decisions BTS?

Do they feel something special being one of them BTS?

They say it would spare us unnecessary confrontation, embarrassment..blah blah blah.

Jury, judges, politians, directors, managers, executives, staff members, board members, representatives, parents, relatives or even friends.

Between behind and in front of the scenes, too many people behave very differently; which scaries me coz they could be people I thought I knew.

It is not that easy to see one plus one equals two.

Because it is more efficient a way to make decisions.

You can be more honest because you don't have to take public opinion into consideration. You can work with secret or embarrassing information without breaching your obligation of secrecy or the privacy of those involved. You don't have to please everybody, but only those who are present. You have a better chance to push your own agenda. You don't have to waste time listening to, and debating the opinions of people who are not important.

It enables unpopular decisions to be made, which would otherwise be prevented by the public outcry.

It's a system that has worked well during the entire history of humanity. This will never change. Transparency is a noble ideal, but it just doesn't get the work done efficiently.

I can understand how we all would like to be privy to all the decision-making that goes around. But most of the time, it's just none of our business, and our contribution to the debate would just be a huge distraction.

I'm afraid I don't share your opinion.

Undeniably it explains a lot why and how a few people wanna make unpopular decisions BTS for the public, and for the-not-important.

Is it really a system that has worked well during the entire history of humanity? Wow!

As tolyb86 puts it, 'i like maths very much...i like clear ways..which ends in 2 when u plus one with one...'.

Why do you doubt it? Just because you're ideologically or morally opposed to it, doesn't mean it doesn't work. Do you have any examples of important decisions that were made entirely not behind the scenes, and that didn't fail?

All you say is "I disagree", but you don't really say why. You say you like math, but math is not really about 1+1 equalling 2, but about logic. You know the saying: "1+1=3, for sufficiently large values of '1'." ;)

All your arguments so far were based on emotion, and even your appeal to mathematics is an emotional one. You should know that human societies is not at all similar to simple arithmetics. There are heaps of variables that must be taken into account, which makes "1+1=2" a really naive analogy.

If you were in a position of power, and you really were making all your decisions thoroughly transparent, you would first and foremost play into the hands of your enemies (don't say you wouldn't have enemies; when you have power, you also have enemies, no matter what). You would also create a lot of new enemies: those who resent transparency on principle, those who resent decisions being delayed due to the unnecessary complications caused by open debate; those whose privacy and/or secrets have been compromised by this mandated indiscretion; and probably many more that I can't think of right now.

@apollon

Love your posts.

Talking about power, I just read something here and there. I guess I would pick a few which I found interesting.

If you were in a position of power you'd be corrupt:

If you are corrupt then you would benefit from a position of power.

Anyone who is in a position of power soon corrupts themselves.

It's like clockwork, it always happens, so, why fight to have them replaced if the next group to replace them will be just as corrupt?

You want yourself and your friends to also be in power so you can get your slice of the corruption.

Freedom is the Cost of Power:

freedom vs power-

i think its more to do with a person's unique personality. some people like artists and designers prefer freedom to power. So, by their very nature they choose the former, and in the proecess if the system is asking them to make a choice- they would choose freedom over power. however, if the system is allowing for both to exist or the tradeoff is negligible or less apparent, then one can say they are enjoyin or having both.

some are inherently tilted towards power...and they curb their own individual freedom and other's freedom to gain more power.

ofcourse, its subjective too. what does power mean to me or how do i see power in a powerful person.

Those of us who have seen and lived the impact of both choices and consciously choose freedom versus power, know what we are giving up. And like the remote worker who posted, sometimes the cost of either choice becomes too great.

Just because you don't acknowledge that seeking power has come at a cost, doesn't make it true.

You can want both simultaneously, but you really can't have both.

But whether you choose power or freedom, you can be an influencer. But the measure of that influence is different. Which one is more effective/satisfying depends on the person's insight into themselves.

Good question. I don't believe that power vs. freedom is a false dichotomy. We tend to believe that we can have it all but some things are mutually exclusive. There are often tradeoffs in the choices that we make. Every decision has advantages and disadvantages, just as every personal characteristic has positive and negative elements. We can't make the perfect choice or be the perfect person. However, we can decide which tradeoffs we are most comfortable with and find the right fit for our unique characteristics.
