“Bart Turner (October 1, 1946 - May 4, 2001) was a model and actor who was born and raised in Fresno, California and would later graduate from @fresno_state college with a degree in psychology.
 

After college, Bart became a probation officer, married a local girl from a prominent family and seemed destined for law school. But fate intervened and he and his wife eventually divorced and he moved to Los Angeles to start a new life.
 

According to Bart’s brother, he was a talented wood and clay sculptor which led to a chance encounter with Rock Hudson. One day, he was replacing some damaged teak on a yacht and in walked Rock. The yacht was his! Apparently, taken with Bart's talents and good looks, Rock arranged for him to have a manager.

In short time, Bart appeared on the May 1975 cover of Playgirl. The magazine received numerous letters asking to see more of him and in the July 1975 issue, he was the centerfold. The shoot too place on a boat in Marina Del Ray and shot by Norman Eales.

Bart signed with the Nina Blanchard agency and landed some small roles on ‘Chico and the Man’ and did some stage work. In August 1979, he was on the cover of @GQ dressed in cowboy attire looking every inch the Marlboro Man. He was often seen with director Allan Carr and a host of other celebs during that period of his career.

By Bart’s mid-30s, the modeling gigs and acting jobs stopped. He would later work in the hospitality industry in Los Angeles and Palm Springs.

Bart contracted HIV in the mid to late 1980's and would become the longest living survivor of the condition in California thanks to his willingness to try the many drug cocktails that were being tested at the time. In his final years, Bart was also a generous volunteer and devoted a lot of time to People with AIDS in Palm Springs.

In 2001, Bart told his brother that he was just "tired of being tired" and stopped his treatment. His beloved mother had died the year before and he wanted to join her.

Bart died in Palm Springs in 2001 at age 54 and was cremated and his ashes were buried alongside his mother's in the Sierra Mountains above Fresno.” — by Jon Whitney

Thank You for this article and the pics!  I dated Bart in the early 80's and wanted so much to be Boyfriends/Partners but he didn't want to settle down at the time.  I remember him calling and telling me that he had landed the cover of GQ.  I also had run into Rock Hudson at different parties when I lived in LA but I had no idea that he arranged management for Bart.  He was a very sweet, kind guy!  I will always keep a little bit of him in my heart!
