Life before we all had a phone in our pocket... when I moved to NYC finding one of these that actually worked or was not adjacent to someone using a jackhammer nearby was quite a feat!

Fantastic Voyage

Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 American science fiction adventure film directed by Richard Fleischer and written by Harry Kleiner, based on a story by Otto Klement and Jerome Bixby. The film is about a submarine crew who are shrunk to microscopic size and venture into the body of an injured scientist to repair damage to his brain. Kleiner abandoned all but the concept of miniaturization and added a Cold War element. The film starred Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, Donald Pleasence, and Arthur Kennedy.

It's tough being the cat's meow! A zany blend of slapstick gags and madcap comedy, this hilarious romp, starring Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole and Woody Allen in his acting and screenwriting debut, is the wildest, wackiest film to emerge from swingin' 60s. Michael (O'Toole) is a mademoiselle magnet. His demented psychiatrist (Sellers) and sex-starved friend (Allen) would kill for this problem, but his would-be fiancé (Romy Schneider) might just kill him. Undergoing therapy, Michael tries to reform, but it won't be easy with sex kittens like Ursula Andress, Paula Prentiss and Capucine on his tail! Wonderfully directed by Clive Donner (The Nude Bomb) and featuring the hit title song written by Burt Bacharach and performed by Tom Jones and featuring other Bacharach hits performed by Dionne Warwick and Manfred Mann.

A notorious womanizer, fashion editor Michael James (Peter O'Toole) decides to seek the help of a psychiatrist when he begins to feel that his inability to commit to a relationship is adversely affecting his personal life. Desperate to remain faithful to his fiancée Carole (Romy Schneider), Michael enlists the help of Dr. Fassbinder (Peter Sellers), blissfully unaware that as Dr. Fassbinder is making the moves on a patient who secretly longs for the seemingly irresistible Michael. As Michael and Carole check into the Chateau Chantelle in hopes of patching up their relationship, Dr. Fassbinder has also arrived at the Chateau in hopes of finally cementing his relationship with the comely patient. As the two couples check into the hotel, disaster looms just beyond the bend in a series of hilarious mishaps that will test both Michael's faithfulness and Dr. Fassbinder's sanity.

10 is a 1979 American romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Blake Edwards and starring Dudley Moore, Julie Andrews, Robert Webber and Bo Derek. It was considered a trendsetting film at the time of its release and became one of the year's biggest box-office hits. The film follows a middle-aged man who becomes infatuated with a young woman whom he has never met, leading to a comic chase and an encounter in Mexico.

Don't know if too many people are going to remember... but I once owned a tuxedo and this shirt worn by Peter Allen designed by Fabrice Simon... I think they are the most luxurious things I've ever owned besides my car.

The Pink Panther

lot-7-posters-1.thumb.jpg.04404531ad12bdc3f88f85ac82db78e6.jpg

As with a surprising number of film roles so closely associated with a particular actor, the Inspector Clouseau character that made his debut in The Pink Panther (1963) was not originally intended for Peter Sellers and was not, in fact, meant to be the central role. The Pink Panther was conceived as a sophisticated comedy about a charming, urbane jewel thief, Sir Charles Litton, a part perfectly suited to the talents and image of David Niven. Years before this picture, Niven nailed the character in Raffles (1940) as the upper crust man-about-town who leads a double life as an ace jewel thief. But any hopes of capitalizing on his previous success were quickly dashed when Sellers arrived on the set.

Peter Ustinov was originally cast as Clouseau, with Ava Gardner as his faithless wife in league with Litton. When Gardner backed out, Ustinov left the project, too, and director Blake Edwards turned to Sellers, a chameleon-like British comic actor known for his ability to transform himself into the most outrageous characters - sometimes playing more than one in a single picture, as he had already proven in The Mouse That Roared (1959) and would do so again in Dr. Strangelove (1964). The Pink Panther sparked a number of sequels, but Clouseau was the main character, not Sir Charles. Instead, Niven had to content himself with playing a variation on the character in the TV series, "The Rogues" (1964-65).

TELEVISION FACT:  Commerical television stations across America came on the air officially on January 1, 1949.

Prior to 1949, only a few large markets had limited television broadcasts and there was no interconnecting cable or microwave links.  Every station was an ISLAND unto itself.

The first educational station on the air was KUHF Channel 8 in Houston. Later stations nationwide became PBS.

Friday and Saturday were the big TV nights around our house for us kids. We weren't allowed too much TV during the week on school days. Unfortunately, if my dad was wanting to watch TV, then you had to watch what he wanted. We didn't have two TV sets until I was in high school. My sister and I would fight over the show. Friday, it was either the Wild Wild West or Tarzan, first. If dad was around it would be the Wild Wild West. He liked westerns the most, well westerns, war shows and police stuff. I remember watching Rat patrol and Hogan's Heroes with him. He would actually watch Star Trek with me though. My sister wasn't a big scifi fan. My mom who rarely bothered with TV other than the news liked crime dramas. I suppose her being an attorney had something to do with that. Shows like Ironside, Burke's Law, Mannix and Judd for the Defense were some I remember.
