Do you think Liam Neeson is a racist?

Liam Neeson appeared on "Good Morning America" Tuesday, to address an alarming interview in which he admitted to seeking to kill a black person to – in his mind – right the rape of his friend.

Speaking with anchor Robin Roberts, the "Cold Pursuit" actor revisited the situation he found himself in about 40 years ago, which he opened up to Britain's The Independentabout.

"I had never felt this feeling before which was a primal urge to lash out," Neeson said on "GMA" after learning of his friend's assault, allegedly by a black man.

"After that there were some nights I went out deliberately into black areas in the city looking to be set upon so that I could unleash physical violence," he said. "And I did it for, I'd say, maybe four or five times until I caught myself on, and it really shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me, and it hurt me. I did seek help."

Do you think Liam is a racist?  And do you think it's fair that he went from the individual (the rape of his friend) to an entire group of people?

Well of course it’s not fair to go from an individual criminal to a whole group of people. But does that make him racist?

I think this only can be answered with a yes if he would not have done a similar thing with someone of his ethnicity. If he would have done the same, he’s not racist, just stupid. 🤷‍♂️

I mean, he said that he deliberately drove around black areas of the city. If he was really concerned about rapists, then he'd be driving to where rapists hang out, right? But he didn't.  He equated rapist with black.

Well in this very special situation the rapist was a black man.

I just wanted to say/wonder if he would have done the same if the rapist was a white/Asian/.. man and done something similar.

I see what you mean now.  I mean, hopefully it were to never happen again so we probably won't ever know.

But it's like the issue of incarceration  in America (incarceration = put people into prison).  There's a disproportionate number of black Americans in prisons and who commit crime.  Is it because they actually commit more crimes? Is it because they're targeted by police more? Is it because they're convicted more? I think racism is especially hard to fight because it's rooted in so many social, economic, and behavioral factors.

That's absolutely correct and quite sad.

I'd even go that far to say nearly everyone is "racist" to some extend. Even bilogically, you're probably always a tad more familiar and drawn to your own race. For example it's proven that Caucasian and Asian people have a harder time distinguishing each other.

I am not an expert on that field but I've seen stories in the internet about "hilarious" verdicts according to black people. So I assume they're on average sentenced to a longer time in jail.

Then I'd also argue they're more targeted by the police. There are a few examples in the US that some police officers are highly racist.

And last but not least I might also argue that due to many people being racist or at least having preconceived notions about afroamerican people, they might have a much harder time finding a solid job. If you're "excludedd" from society, you're more endangered to become a criminal.

Agree totally Sammy.

I'm not suggesting it is a conscious bias.

In terms of Liam Neeson, I think it is important to understand how and what he feels today.

Over time, people change their perspectives.

It seems unfair if someone is to be tarred and feathered for thoughts and feelings from 40 years ago.
