Favorite Lovemaking Music

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I was wondering what is everyone's favorite music or playlists they use for sharing those intimate moments with their special someone.

I'm always on the hunt for new music.  I like almost all genres of music, but tend to gravitate towards a more exotic new age sound, sort of like the following, which I find very sensual:

I can think of nothing better than making love with my partner, than this music from Mahler's 5th Symphony.

Perfect love making music.

Yes ok I admit it, I am an incurable romantic (proud of it too!)

Come on, guys...

Surely, @Doug and I aren't the only ones who appreciate good music with great sex!  What sounds do you other guys like to put on for a terrific evening of lovemaking?

Or even for those of you who might just prefer one-nighters of raw, carnal pleasure (I hope you're keeping it safe BTW), what background music do you like to enhance the experience?

I have to admit @tbill I too was somewhat disappointed that nobody else seemed interested in music of any description.

I guess Shakespeare was wrong when he said "If music be the food of love, play on......."

I guess love doesn't enter the equation any more.  Pity.

I do!  I like all sorts, depends on the mood.... and as @JackFTwist knows I have a thing about pianos too...

@tbill , @Doug , and @macnasty :  I think this is a great topic, but there are so many choices just from classical music alonge that I’m having trouble deciding on a favorite.

Even though I don’t normally care for Mahler, the piece Doug chose above really would make an excellent “soundtrack” for lovemaking.  I’m almost completely ignorant of the popular music from the last 20 years, but of the small number of songs I do know, there are a few that might be candidates for me, as well.

Part of my mental block against being able to choose a favorite is that a number of factors would affect my choice, like my partner’s musical tastes — he might hate the piece or style of music I’d normally prefer.  Time would also be an influence:  Do we only have enough time for a quickie, or do we have plenty of time?  (In the latter case, I hope we’d need two or three pieces cued up!)  Mood:  Is either one of us stressed out over something else, or are we relaxed and feeling intensely romantic?  Are we going to be tender and make it last as long as possible, or are going to be vigorously impassioned, as if there were no tomorrow?

The 1979 romantic comedy “10” used Ravel’s “Bolero” for this purpose, and because of the movie’s popular success, that piece quickly became the default choice of many people who knew little else about classical music.  (IMO, it became a cliché.)  In many ways it’s a great choice, though:  It starts out so softly, then gradually and steadily builds in intensity and volume toward the orgasm … umm, climax, I meant.  As you can see from scanning the multiple choices YouTube has for this piece, it runs in the 14-17 minute range, depending on the tempo the conductor chooses.  (If we’ve got plenty of time to enjoy ourselves, that’s not going to be long enough, though!)  There’s even an abbreviated version that times out at about 10 minutes — perfect for the quickie I mentioned above.

The “1812 Overture” is another possibility in the same vein as “Bolero,” but again, it’s fairly short.  Maybe Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings”?  If we were really planning on taking our time, Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony is a personal favorite, and its climax is truly orgasmic!  Or I might just settle on some quiet New Age music, something to provide a musical backdrop without being distracting.  (Sorry, tbill, but nothing exotic for me.  I’m thinking more along the lines of Enya.)

As I said, there are just so many choices and other variables that I can’t settle on only a single piece.  But for a postlude, I might lean toward the triumphant “Ode to Joy” finale of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (“The Choral”), because that’s how I hope I’d feel while basking in the afterglow. ;)  Or maybe just Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero” ("Holding Out for a Hero”) — not for the lyrics, but for the beat and tempo.

You may all think I’m crazy, but I love upbeat jazz music when I’m making love.

Absolutely nothing crazy about that, although I’m not personally a huge fan of most types of jazz.

I agree with @JackFTwist, Nothing crazy about that @Davie although I confess I don't understand or like jazz.

Good point, @Doug.  I should’ve included that I don’t understand jazz, either, especially improvisational and other forms of “modern” jazz.  Do you have any favorite pieces for lovemaking?

@JackFTwist Hi Jack, yes I do and as others have mentioned it does rather depend on the sort of mood I am in, but the music I have alread posted is the sort of music I prefer, however ballads like this one by Johnny Mathis are also important to me.

As I said earlier, I am such a romantic.

@Doug : It’s hard to go wrong with Johnny Mathis when it comes to romantic vocal music.

Can you post a YouTube example?  You've peaked my curiousity @Davie, and with the right beat, some jazz can be exceptionally hot!

Really?!  I loved "Chicago", which was mostly 20's style jazz.  And the opening number was pretty f-ing hot, too!  Some of the dancers really got my libido stirring as well!

So @Davie, if jazz is what gets your juices flowing, I'm there for ya, buddy!

@tbill : Loved it.  It’s like a supercharged version of one of the cabaret scenes from the classic 1972 movie “Cabaret,” which should be very high on every gay man’s must-see movies list.

Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles celebrated the best of Broadway with their our concert 'He Had It Coming' on April 1-2, 2017.   Excerpts from Willkommen (Cabaret) and All That Jazz (Chicago).

Actually I may be a bit off on this. I was thinking of the first gay porn movie I saw-Cousins. The music they played wasnt so much jazz. Maybe a combo of jazz and rock. So since then I always considered that “get down to business music”.  And unfortunately I can’t find the movie anywhere now. Although I found the info on IMDB.

Unfortunately I don’t. I was just going back to the first gay porn movie I saw-Cousins. They’re were several scenes and now I’m thinking the music was more instrumental rock with a bit of jazz. So that’s my “get down to business” music. But I do love Johnny Mathis. He’s just a great singer! And perhaps a good romantic too!

Many people aren’t real fans of jazz. Myself, I love it. My dad listened to it all the time when I was a kid and my grandmother also loved it. So I guess it runs in the family!
