V - Veurne, Belgium

Veurne is a city in the Belgian province of West Flanders. In 1830, Veurne was the first city to welcome Belgium’s new king, Leopold I, in his new country.

During World War I, Veurne was located within the Yser pocket of Belgian resistance against the German troops. During the Battle of the Yser, the Veurne

city hall became the headquarters for the Belgian troops under King Albert I and a military hospital was set up in the city. Today, the city is a

regional centre, which gives commercial, medical, and educational services to the surrounding communities while enjoying increasing tourist attention.

Several Renaissance-style buildings, mostly built using the local light-coloured brick, adorn Veurne’s central market square, which make it one of Belgium's

finest market squares. Among these are the city hall (Landhuis) and belfry, which is recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites in 1999.

Yuma is a city in and the county seat of Yuma County, Arizona, United States. It is located in the southwestern corner of Arizona.

Yuma's geography shaped the Southwest. Because this was the safest spot to cross the Colorado River, all roads led to Yuma for travelers from Spanish explorers to Okies fleeing the Dust Bowl.

Today Yuma is a vibrant multicultural community that celebrates its rich heritage, surrounded by wide-open spaces and pristine desert scenery - all with a river running through it. With more sunshine than any other city on earth, Yuma is a natural for all kinds of outdoor activities, from boating to golf to off-roading.

A - Antwerp, Belgium

Antwerp is a city in Belgium and the capital of the Antwerp province of Flanders. Antwerp is located on the right (eastern) bank of the river Scheldt,

which is linked to the North Sea by the Westerschelde estuary. The city has one of the largest seaports in Europe. Antwerp has long been an important city

in the Low Countries both economically and culturally.

Sights:

Antwerp Zoo, located in the centre of Antwerp right next to the Central station. It is the oldest animal park in the country, and one of the oldest in the world (1843).

Central Station: railway station designed by Louis Delacenserie, completed in 1905. It has two monumental neo-baroque façades, a large metal and glass dome (60m/197 ft) and a gilt and marble interior.

Cathedral of Our Lady

St. James' Church, is more ornate than the cathedral. It contains the tomb of Rubens.

Plantin-Moretus Museum preserves the house of the printer Christoffel Plantijn and his successor Jan Moretus.

Royal Museum of Fine Arts, close to the southern quays, has a collection of old masters (Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian) and the leading Dutch masters.

Rubenshuis is the former home and studio of Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) in Antwerp. It is now a museum.

C - Charleroi, Belgium

Charleroi is the largest city in Wallonia, and the 4th largest in Belgium.

Charleroi straddles both banks of the river Sambre in an area marked by industrial activities (coal mining and steel industry), which has been nicknamed the Pays Noir ("Black Country"), part of the larger sillon industriel. Even though most of the factories have closed since the 1950s, the landscape remains dotted with spoil tips and old industrial buildings.

The belfry is included in the list of World Heritage Sites.

Charleroi lies around 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Brussels.
