introducing(?) sam mangubat
this fellow has been called "the Boyce Avenue of the Philippines."
if y'all are not familiar with Boyce Avenue at this point then you simply have never ventured towards Youtube for music
when trolls around Youtube it is usually to find covers of songs
more often then not
a cover of a song might very well be better than the original
Possible case in point - Disturbed version of Simon & Garfunkle's "Sounds of Silence"
the best part of looking for covers of songs is that you find remarkable talent that otherwise you might never have heard of
knew of a singer who makes the rounds at coffee houses
she is beyond superb
she was offered a recording contract
and then the producers started in on what she should sing
and how things should be arranged
and presentation
she writes her own songs - thank you very much
and she no assist from you in arrangements
so - before they got their claws into her she said "no thank you"
she sells her CDs when she appears and online and has a very loyal following
many performers actually prefer Youtube than becoming HUGE
or - by luck of the draw - no big producer has stumbled upon them
sam mangubat might be just such a case
was searching for a cover of Dancing On My Own
and found this
Sam's has become 's go to version
why?
much like another fave of 's (Max Schnieder)
Sam brings raw emotion to his covers
simply put - when he sings you believe him
Sam's phrasing is superb and his control is impressive
also - Sam (with Billy Padillo) When We Were Young
Billy might steal the show here!
next on the agenda will be Von Smith and the song that made a fan
